This book for tuba, by Wesley Jacobs, features adapted versions of the Easy Etudes by Wilhelm Wurm, specifically chosen to facilitate musical development in keys that may not be commonly encountered by younger players. These etudes have been carefully selected for their brevity, limited range, and moderate technical demands in terms of articulation and intervals. These characteristics enable greater emphasis on achieving musical performances across a diverse range of keys.

Keys for Success
Keys for Success Review Wes Jacobs has come up with yet another extremely useful tool for students and educators. These relatively short and simple etudes are, first and foremost, a fine avenue for private lesson teachers to introduce (and de-mystify) keys that tuba players don’t often encounter. At the same time, there are common rhythmic and technical challenges that present learning opportunities, and the range of the etudes is never extreme. Mr. Jacobs includes text to help guide the student in their practice. In addition to being a useful addition for private study, these etudes are terrific sight-reading material for all manner of auditions. While every single etude isn’t suitable for this purpose, most of them are. Having this book on your hard drive where you can quickly choose and print an etude suitable for middle or high school audition sight-reading instead of spending a lot of time sifting through books or parts to find “the right thing” is a boon for everyone. I recommend that you pick this useful and inexpensive book right away to have in your toolbox. - Jerry Young Professor Emeritus University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire Former Interlochen faculty member
